meeeeeeeelan

OK, time to be a grumpy old man.

Why has every broadcaster in the English-speaking world decided that AC Milan should now be pronounced AC Meeeeeeeelan? Surely the Italian is "Milano", with the emphasis on the "a", so how do we get from Milaaaaaaano to Meeeeeeeeelan?

I find it extremely irritating. Now for the TOK - why should I find it irritating? It's just a word, and I understand what it is supposed to represent, so what's my problem?

Hi,
So, one may ask what is the purpose for such a change in the phonotatics? In anycase, why should it be irritating?.Perhaps what you supposedly know it represents may have changed over the period of time. Anyway, do you support AC Milan?

It's their language and it's important that we pronounce the word the way they want it cause a change in pronounciation changes the entire meaning of the and hence language.

Mr.Mensah always corrects me on this word "Mzee" which is old.I normally add a "u" after "M" as "Muzee" but this changes the message the word carries but what about the word which are prounced the same but carry different meanimgs such "Bwana" which can mean God or Mister, does this affect language in our ways of knowing?
